Cultural Perspectives: This week in your child's class are studying Eastern Europe and the impact of Romanian Gypsies on Western European economics and social order.. We placed a focus on Gypsies and their unique customs and lifestyle. Students viewed a BBC documentary on Gypsy teens and children and made cross cultural connections.

Cultural Perspectives: This week in your child's class we studied West Central Europe. We placed a focus on France and the compositions of Claude Debussy and the artwork of George Seurat. Students listened to famous works classical composition and created a pointilism style piece of art. Students also researched a topic of culture of their choosing related to the geographic region of study and presented their work to the class!

Cultural Perspectives - The past two weeks your students have been looking at the culture of the peoples of Southern Europe today! We have studied Greece, Italy, and the Iberian Peninsula. Our class discussions have included the relevance of bull fighting in Spain in the 21st century, the importance of fashion and tourism in Italy's economy, and the the idea of Americanization and the retention of one's native culture when people immigrate to the United States.


What's Next? Our next unit of study includes West Central Europe and Germany's Octoberfestivals!

Cultural Perspectives - The past two weeks your student began to look at the cultural contributions of Europeans of the industrial revolution. We looked at the age of scientific discovery and how this period of significant technological growth has changed the way people lived in the 18th-19th centuries and today!

Cultural Perspectives - This week your student began to look at the cultural contributions of the ancient Greeks and Romans, as well as the Renaissance Period on modern life and modern Europe. They also investigated ancient art, sculpture, and architecture through the use of a virtual learning platform called PLATO. This web based component of our course allows your student to develop the skills to be self directed in their education and to be able to acquire information from web based learning environments. This is a great skill to develop for college readiness!

Cultural Perspectives - This week your student continued in our first unit of study on evolution. We discussed how man has evolved over 5 million years and when proto-human and human culture began. We discussed terms such as genetic isolation, genetic convergence and divergence, as well as parallel evolution and genetic drift.  After covering 5 million years of history in one week we are ready to begin looking at early human civilization and the culture that evolved into the way we live today!

Cultural Perspectives - This month we began our course with the discussion of what is culture? When did man develop culture? What are sub cultures? And what cultures am I a part of? We studied the evolution of man and development of early human culture.
